Discipline vs Punishment – The Right Way to Groom Kids

  • 24 April 2019

Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all. – Aristotle.

The power of discipline is massive when it comes to educating and grooming a tender mind who is new to the world of learning.  Not only discipline but there are several aspects that serve to build a healthy learning environment children, including the teaching ethics, pedagogies, competition, diligence, and more. There are certainly unlimited facets that help to establish a strong platform for children to learn and grow, and two of the most debated facets in this respect have always remained discipline and punishment. We, at JP International School, are firm supporters of inculcating discipline among the young minds while being equally in oppose of the punishment approach of teaching. In this article below, we will be discussing the difference between discipline and punishment, and what influence do these aspects impose on a child’s growing process, mindset, and behavior.

The Power of Discipline

Structure and stability are two of the most significant elements responsible for shaping an individual’s life, and both of them come through discipline. Lack of discipline can drive a developing mind to several adverse and unnecessary behaviors or practices that would leave a blemish in their lives in the long run. Hence, we believe that discipline should not only be an essential part of a child’s academic life, but it should be equivalently valued when it comes to their personal or everyday life as well. It is one of the most effective ways in which one can teach the art of self-improvement to the young minds and help them become independent learners, self-sufficient in every way. If you pay some in-depth attention to the words of the most established and famous figures in the world today, they have always considered discipline and self-improvement a momentous part of their successful life. The power of discipline is massive, and implementing the same in a student’s life is inevitable.

An Insight into the Right Way to Nurture Young Minds

When the question arises about nurturing and mentoring young students, psychologists and experts always consider discipline as a much safer, effective, and reliable approach. This s the reason why leading educational institutions are now coming up with innovative and advanced regulations to introduce young children to the solace and confidence achieved by discipline. We, at JP International School, focus on teaching our students methods and practices such as:

  • Providing logical consequences to students
  • Showing and pointing out mistakes and helping them understand
  • Making them repeat homework corrections
  • Rewarding their good behaviors
  • Encouraging them to change old or bad habits and involve them in learning new skills
  • Establishing a healthy competitive environment

We believe that it is imperative to value preparation over punishment and help children learn, mature, and thrive in a more communicative, affectionate, and well-structured environment. Punishment is definitely not a favorable approach to mentor young minds as acts involved in the process of punishment can adversely affect the delicate mindset, behavior, and esteem of children without the educators realizing the fact at all. The human brain captures moods, behaviors, and actions coming from others more cautiously and carefully than adults, which is retained in their minds for a long time. It is hence important to understand that the budding geniuses are just at their stage of development which is a critical time and needs to be controlled or managed in secured and sound ways. It is hence best if punishment has no room in the rearing of the twenty-first-century kids.

We, at the JP International School, ranked as the Best CBSE School in Noida, believe that children should be groomed and prepared in an environment where they feel secured, cared, and attended every single minute. The future of children significantly depends on their nurturing and upbringing at this stage, and we believe that the guardians, mentors, and teachers play a vital role in showing them the right path and making challenges much easier and simpler for them to overcome. Thus, we, at JPIS, pay close and personalized attention to each of our pupils and help them to stimulate their innate abilities by implementing the right tactics of discipline. At JPIS, we have adopted extremely balanced and specialized approaches to not only enhance the academic performance of our students but to aid in their overall development so that they grow up to be both professionally and personally successful in the long run.
