How to Fight Boredom during Long Study Hours?

  • 10 July 2018

Do you think that attaining academic excellence is all about studying hard? If yes, think again! Times have changed. Amidst the paradigm shift that education has taken over in the recent years, studying smart, rather than studying hard, has become the most pivotal affair that students need to get acquainted with. Smart learning, not only help the students improvise their scholastic skills and ensures scoring higher grades but also expands the growth and opportunity of their academic development. Smart learning involves interesting tasks to make sure that even if the students have to opt for long study hours, it doesn’t become monotonous.

Academic studies can be mastered, but it requires a couple of things for students to note.First of all, pay careful heed to how much time you are actually spending in carrying out a quality study. The hours you invest and the skills you imbibe should ideally result inquality learning. What’s the point otherwise to keep sitting with the book for hours but not absorbing anything of it? Hence, see to it that the time you devote to studying is the time off from anything else.

But yes when it comes to incorporating the ideaof studying for longer durations, it may not seem to be that easy.Longer duration study is indeed exhausting and is pretty tough but if you have bigger and better results in front of you, why not try it out? There are always ways to fight the boredom and the mental drainage that you get during those long study hours. Here are a few interesting and effective ideas that will help you stay high on energy even when you have to study for long hours:

Prioritize your Study Schedule

You need to prioritize your schedule, for it is the most important thingthat promotes a quality study. The trickyand challengingtopics must be taken over in the first place when you are at your best energy. You must be equipped with all difficult study materials in the first half of your study schedule. This will form the foundation of a productive study;leaving you with the less challenging topics for the second halfwhen you feel dissipated and yourenergy is a little on the lower side. Contrarily, if you choose the more convenient topics in the first place, you will apparently succumb to procrastination and your energy will dislike being tested by those heavily-burdened topics.

Healthy Food is the Key to a Healthy Mind

Even though the brain comprises only 2% of the total body weight, it guzzles almost 20 percent of the quotidian energy. As a matter of fact, the highly demanding tasks can result in mental drainage. Therefore, it is essential for you to maintain a healthy diet during thelong study hours. This will not only help sustain the energy level but also nourish your soul. But when it comes to mental health, what you eat matters much more than how much you eat. Avoid those High-GI foods that can make you go drowsy and lethargic. Say no to junkfoods like pizza, burger, potato chips, cold drinks, or high sugary beverages during the long study duration. Instead, opt for the foods that have low Glycemic Index like porridge, low-fat dairy, yogurt with seeds or nuts, low-sugar muesli, soups, salads, anything whole grain, fruits, granola bars, as well asoats. You can also keep some dry fruits handy with you for munching while you study.

Take Breaks at Regular Intervals

There’s no denying the fact that even if you study enthusiastically, your concentration level starts dropping after 40 minutes. In that matter, if you keep on powering the way through, your concentration level will only decrease over time, thereby pestering and insulting the time you invest in studying long. So, taking breaks at regular intervals, say a 10 min break after every 50 minutes of study, is a good option as this will not only help up your energy levels but will also assure that you restore the focus.

Stop Comparing, Start Focusing

Talents come in a variety. Hence, it would be incorrect to think that all children have the similar capability of studying for long hours. While a few can do it easily, few others may find it extremely hard to study even for half an hour at one go. It is thus not a very apt thing to compare kids with each other. Try and identify your own upper limits and try to stretch them slowly and steadily, rather than comparing yourself with others and feeling bad about it.

We, at the JP International School, one of the best school in Greater Noida, strongly believe that every child requires cultivating their own sets of skills and creativity. Students must learn and grow, but if their internal talents are blocked, it would only create obstacles for them. So, recognize your inner potential and work accordingly. If one of your friends can study for 2 hours at a stretch, it is not necessary that you must also do the same. Maybe you can study as much in a single hour as your friend does in double the time. Isn’t it? What matters more is how much you absorb from the total time you devote to your studies. This is what we, at JPIS, want each of our students to know and understand. Academic performance is never counted on the basis of how much time you spend studying but on how much knowledge you gain. So, stay focused, keep achieving!
