The Green Campus at JPIS - An Effort towards Securing the Environment

  • 7 April 2019

The world is increasingly becoming aware of the sustainable means of survival observing the devastating effects of pollution that is leaving its carbon footprints on mother earth. Awareness and protection programs to save the planet from the menaces of misuse of resources are being spread at every level. Since schools and educational institutions are the organizations that cater to the holistic development of the children who will dictate the terms of the future in the coming years, it is imperative that they foster an environment that encourages each of the kids to grow as an individual with awareness regarding environment and ecology. To that end, we, at the JP International School, have also made our bit of contribution towards creating a sustainable environment with our green campus and eco-friendly infrastructure, facilities and the learning methods. The idea is to make the students understand the importance of peaceful coexistence that has nurtured life on earth for millions of years.

JPIS

The Building Structure

At JPIS, we have kept the ceiling height higher than usual to ensure that the hot air gets enough space to roll up allowing the cold air to move down and keep the classes and the area cool which conforms to the basic rules of nature.  Another attempt to make the campus eco-friendly can be marked through the lighting arrangements done at JPIS. With energy efficient CFL lights and luminaries reflecting every ray of light across the area not wasting even a bit of it, we ensure optimum use of energy. The huge terrace area of the buildings is used for rainwater harvesting, thereby making efficient use of the rain waters. The rainwater harvesting pits are strategically placed near the bore wells to ensure regular recharge.

Waste Management

To make the campus a real green campus, JPIS makes sure that the wastes get segregated based on their nature. Depending on whether the wastes are solid or liquid, biodegradable or not, separation is made at the source level. Thereafter, the wastes are also recycled to make sure that less waste gets thrown out as final garbage. At JPIS, every student gets trained regarding the same to help them become more aware of the waste management concept. According to the reports of the Centre of Science and Environment, JPIS recycles 97.7% of its wastes, and we hope to make it 100 % in the coming years. We strictly forbid the practice of burning waste as it generates a huge amount of harmful carbon dioxide.

Reduced use of paper

Trees are the primary source of energy to the world and cutting the trees necessarily mean depletion in oxygen level, reduced strength of soil, enhanced erosion, droughts, floods, and less biodiversity. Hence, trees must be protected and to do so, the use of papers should be reduced at first. With ERP integrated operations, JPIS has already ensured minimum level of paper usage which in turn will mean less deforestation and more greenery to save the environment. Reuse of textbooks is also promoted as a means to indirectly reduce the cutting down of trees for making papers.

Comprehending the importance of natural resources

Earth is the primary storehouse of resources and energies. Once exhausted, the resources take millions of years to get replenished. Hence, it is on us that when we use those resources for our good, we take ample measures to ensure that not a bit get wasted. This awareness is of much importance and can save the world from running out of its minerals rapidly. At JPIS, we make the students understand the underlying importance of resource usage and the need to preserve them. By instructing the students to put off the lights while going out of the class and to not to leave running taps behind, we make sure that every individual comprehends the importance of the natural resources from their childhood.

JP International School, recognized as one of the Top CBSE Schools in Noida, has a sprawling area of 50 acres accommodating the infrastructure and building area. The open playgrounds and the eco-friendly buildings are designed in a way to nurture the bonding between nature and human. At JPIS, we believe that every step forward means one step towards protecting nature, and this is the vision and idea that we deliver to our students as well to make them understand the value of ecological balance and its importance in making the chain of survival stronger for all living beings.
