Raising Nature Smart Kids

  • 22 July 2020

“Save mother nature from destruction, it will save you from extinction”-S Roses S

Nature has been the cradle for millions of species on the earth for eons. The human race, too, has enjoyed the nourishment of nature along its journey of evolution from nomads to modern settlers. It is in the environment that we find all the essentials like air, water, food, and more for sustenance. This is the very reason why we acknowledge nature as Mother Nature. From times immemorial, nature has provided for us, and now, it is our turn to take care of it and do our bit to ensure that our future generations do not remain deprived of the unconditional love of nature. And this is exactly why we, at JP International School, one of the top CBSE schools in Noida, believe that the first attempt towards building a bond between young minds and nature must be taken at an early age. We have seen that when kids develop a relationship with nature, they are benefitted in multiple ways, as explained in the article below.

Improved Learning Capacity

As the wise would say, nature is a wide-open classroom with no visible teachers preaching, yet all elements would participate in making you more knowledgeable.  From grass blades to ocean waves, from breeze to storm, nature offers a wide variety of phenomena that instill a love for learning effortlessly in young minds. Studies have revealed that kids who play in the garden or mix with nature more frequently are better capable of learning than those who stay within the boundaries of the house and try to learn from textbooks alone.

Sharpening of Senses

Nature is all about perceiving and sensing. More than children understand they feel, and the senses grow sharper. With the tantalizing aroma of the flowers, the sweet crisping sound of the birds, the rumbling music of the gushing rivers, and the orchestral sounds of blowing wind thrashing against the autumn leaves, children learn to perceive nature. Later on, this sharp sense of perception helps children grow into sensible personalities, full of empathy and compassion for others. Also, it helps in developing creativity and the power of imagination in children which are critical for the wholesome development of the mind.

Easy-to-Understand Science

Where can we find science if not in nature? From the law of gravity to Einstein’s theories of conservation of mass, from photosynthesis to ecological balance, nature is the living laboratory for all the science fundamentals that we come across throughout our lives. Once a child learns to find out the connection between the textbook information and its source in nature, the knowledge becomes complete, and the child never forgets what he/she learns. Therefore, the bonding between nature and kids leads to an enhanced comprehension of the science lessons beyond any doubt.

Improved Cognitive Learning

Cognitive power is one of the most important aspects of growing up. A child with better cognitive skills is sure to perform better academically as well. From language to mathematics, from logical reasoning to analytical abilities, almost every lateral of holistic learning depends on the efficacy of cognitive skills. Now, since researchers have found that the more time a child spends in nature, the better become its cognitive skills, it becomes particularly important that we allow our kids to connect with nature on a more profound level.

As you all know, the green cover of the earth is disappearing, the biodiversity is reducing, the vitals of the environments are changing, and life on earth is gradually facing the perils of over-exhaustion of recourses. It is high time we think about it and does whatever it takes to restore our Mother Nature. This is why today, we, at JP International School, would like to urge all the parents to come forward and responsibly play their part in making sure that they raise nature-smart kids, who are aware of the necessity of biodiversity and ecological balance. It is essential to help sustain the legacy that our planet has carried for millions of years to ensure our very existence on it in the years to come.
